Oak Pentacle

- OAK PENTACLE -

The pentagram is basically a five-pointed star, one of the most common ancient symbol specially used to protection and magical evocations for millennia. A pentacle, is a pentagram circumscribed by a circle.

It could be also said that the pentacle is the most neccessary tool for the practice of the ceremonial magic. It has to be usually in the middle of the shrine and is used to placed the offerings on it. As a ritual tool represents the unity of the five elements: the water, the fire, the earth, the air and the spirit.

Currently, there's been a lot of controversy surrounding its use, but primarily also concerning its orientation or position. Many people think that the inverted position of this amulet, with the top point pointed downward, represents the dreaded Satan's cult for its resemblance to a he-goat head (a poor animal who was unlucky enough to be associated with the devil and the black magic since the Middle Ages). In my humble personal opinion, the inverted pentagram is just another option to represent this symbol, not necessarily associated to evil, partly because I just don't believe in the devil existence, and less on the he-goat as the personification of the devil, according to the christian belief. The light and the dark or the good and the evil, form part of a whole, so everything depends on the intention of the person that use the pentacle... but well, each one has its own view of things.

In any case, for me the upright pentacle means the protective energies and the oneness with the universe, and the inverted position means the receptive energies.

I've created this pentacle in a wood base for its special association with the earth element, according to the neopagan traditions. My pentacle is designed with oak leaves and an acorn in the middle, using a pokerwork technique and walnut ink, and finally, I've signed the piece on its back side ;)

El pentagrama es básicamente una estrella de cinco puntas, uno de los símbolos antiguos más comunes utilizado especialmente para protección e invocaciones mágicas durante milenios. Un pentáculo, sería un pentagrama circunscrito por un círculo.

Podría decirse también que el pentáculo es la herramienta más necesaria para la práctica de la magia ceremonial. Generalmente, tiene que estar dispuesto en el centro del altar y se utiliza para colocar ofrendas en él. Como herramienta ritual representa la unidad de los cinco elementos: el agua, el fuego, la tierra, el aire y el éter.

En la actualidad, ha habido mucha controversia en torno a su uso, pero principalmente en cuanto a su orientación o posición. Muchas personas piensan que la posición invertida de este amuleto, con la punta superior hacia abajo, representa el temido culto a Satanás por su semejanza a una cabeza de chivo (un pobre animal que tuvo la mala suerte de estar asociado al diablo y a la magia negra desde la Edad Media). En mi humilde opinión personal, el pentagrama invertido es solo otra opción para representar este símbolo, no necesariamente asociada con el mal, entre otras cosas porque simplemente no creo en la existencia del diablo, y mucho menos en el macho cabrío como la personificación del mal, según la fé cristiana. La luz y la oscuridad o el bien y el mal, forman parte de un todo, de modo que siempre dependerá de la intención de la persona que usa el pentáculo... pero bueno, cada uno tiene su propia visión de las cosas.

En cualquier caso, para mí el pentáculo significa las energías protectoras y la unión con el universo, y en su posición invertida haría referencia a las energías receptivas.

Yo he creado este pentáculo con una base de madera por su especial asociación con el elemento tierra, de acuerdo con la tradición neopagana. Mi pentáculo está diseñado con hojas de roble y una bellota en el centro, usando la técnica de pirograbado y nogalina, y finalmente, he firmado la pieza en su parte posterior ;)
