The wand is one of the most popular tools used in ceremonial magic since ancient times...
Basically, is a wooden branch which would help the practitioner to rise his invocations, to channel or direct energy, even to draw symbols in the ritual area. It must be consecrated in the name of the Mother Goddess and generally represents the element of Air. Other traditions suggest that the wand could also be inscribed with magical symbols and with the name given to the practitioner upon her initiation.
In ancient Egypt, pharaohs were often buried with a wand of power among his belongings, in order to be used by the soul in the eternity. In the Greek mythology we can find the "Caduceus" of the God Hermes (God Mercury, according to the Roman mythology); a powerful wand offered by Apollo to Hermes, with which he could to induce sleep or to awake the mortals, even to grant a gentle death to the dying or to bring dead back to life. But no less significant is the legend of the Goddess Circe, that through the use of potions, herbs and her magic wand, she transformed who offended her into wild swines... as was the case of the Odysseus' crew.
The wand that I show in the pictures was handcrafted by myself with a oak natural branch of 43 cm / 17 inches tall. It has a pointed white quartz set on the top, reinforced with two types of leather straps; the handle was covered with a brown cotton cord and, finally, shows a flame-shaped amber at the lower end, along with two sterling silver amulets tied with fine leather strings.
The white quartz is cold to touch and its colour, inclusions and irregularities remind us the icy effigy of the Moon, instead, the warm touch of the amber, as well as its flaming colours, suggest us the vibrant image of the Sun.

La varita es una de las herramientas más populares utilizadas en la magia ceremonial desde la antigüedad...
Básicamente, se trata de una rama de madera que ayudaría al practicante a elevar sus invocaciones, canalizar o dirigir energía e incluso para dibujar símbolos en el área ritual. Debe ser consagrada en el nombre de la Diosa Madre y generalmente representa el elemento del Aire. Otras tradiciones sugieren que la varita también podría ser inscrita con símbolos mágicos y con el nombre dado al practicante en su iniciación.
En el antiguo Egipto, los faraones eran a menudo enterrados con una varita de poder entre sus pertenencias, para ser utilizadas por el alma en la eternidad. En la mitología griega podemos encontrar el "Caduceo" del Dios Hermes (Dios Mercurio, según la mitología romana); una poderosa varita ofrecida por Apolo a Hermes, con la que podía inducir el sueño o despertar a los mortales, incluso para conceder una muerte piadosa a los moribundos o para devolver la vida a los muertos. Pero no menos importante es la leyenda de la Diosa Circe, que a través del uso de pociones, hierbas y su varita mágica, transformaba a quien la ofendía en cerdos salvajes... como fue el caso de la tripulación de Odiseo.
La varita que muestro en las imagenes está hecha a mano por mí misma con una rama natural de roble de 43cm / 17 pulgadas de altura. Tiene un cuarzo blanco en forma de punta en la parte superior, reforzado con dos tipos de correas de cuero; el mango está recubierto con un cordón de algodón marrón y, finalmente, muestra un ámbar en forma de llama en el extremo inferior, junto con dos amuletos de plata atados con finas cuerdas de cuero.
El cuarzo blanco es frío al tacto y su color, inclusiones e irregularidades nos recuerdan a la efigie helada de la Luna, en cambio, el tacto cálido del ámbar, así como sus colores llameantes, nos sugieren la vibrante imagen del Sol.
