This book was my Valentine's Day present, I'd forgotten to share it here!
I've always been fascinated by the "Tragicomedy of Calisto and Melibea" by Fernando De Rojas, popularly known in Spain as "La Celestina"... I love the depiction of its leading character; that ex-prostitute named Celestina, that now in her old age acts as a matchmaker and sorceress specialist in black magic, having made a pact with the devil, who is mentioned directly in her spell to summon Pluto, mythological divinity of the underworld. 🔥
Almost every child in Spain have studied this medieval piece in their literature classes... it's a very important part of our cultural heritage; one of our most traditional medieval witches (pure intensity, gossip and sorcery)
This is a 1974 special edition, beautifully illustrated with 19 lithographs by Lorenzo Goñi and with the texts on the basis of the original edition dating from the late 15th century, entitled "Libro de Calixto y Melibea y de la puta vieja Celestina" (The book of Calixto and Melibea and of the old whore Celestina)
"I conjure you, sad god Pluto, lord of the infernal deep, emperor of the damned court, proud commander of the fallen angels, grand signor of those sulphureous fires which the flaming mountains flash forth, governor of the torments and chief tormentor of the sinful souls that lie howling in hell! I, Celestina, your most noted client, conjure you by the virtue of these vermillion letters, by the blood of that bird of the night with which they are charactered, by the power and weight of these names and signs which are contained in this paper, by the fell and bitter poison of those vipers whence this oil was extracted, with which I annoint this clew of yarn ̵ ̵ I command that you come without delay to obey my will that Melibea shall buy this yarn of me, so that the more she shall behold it, the more her heart be mollified and the sooner wrought to yield to my request. I also command that you will open her heart and wound it with the strongest and crudest love for Calisto in such a manner that, despising all honesty and casting off all shame, she may discover herself unto me and reward both my message and my pains. Do this and I am at your command to do what you will have me do"

Siempre me ha fascinado la "Tragicomendia de Calisto y Melibea" de Fernando De Rojas, popularmente conocida como "La Celestina"... Me encanta la representación de su personaje protagonista; esa antigua meretriz llamada Celestina, que ahora en su vejez obra como alcahueta y hechicera especializada en magia negra, habiendo pactado con el demonio, aludido directamente en su invocación a Plutón, divinidad mitológica del inframundo. 🔥
Casi todos los niños en España hemos estudiado esta obra en clases de literatura... Es parte importante de nuestra herencia cultural; una de nuestra brujas medievales más castizas (pura intensidad, salseo del bueno, enredos y hechicería)
Esta es una edición especial de 1974, engalanada con 19 litografías de Lorenzo Goñi y con los textos en base a la edición original de finales del siglo XV, titulada "Libro de Calixto y Melibea y de la puta vieja Celestina"

Conjúrote, triste Plutón, señor de la profundidad infernal, emperador de la corte dañada, capitán soberbio de los condenados ángeles, señor de los sulfúreos fuegos que los hervientes étnicos montes manan, governador y veedor de los tormentos y atormentadores de las pecadoras ánimas; regidor de las tres furias, Tesífone, Megera y Aleto, administrador de todas las cosas negras del reino de Estigie y Dite, con todas las lagunas y sombras infernales y litigioso caos; mantenedor de las volantes arpías, con toda la otra compañía de espantables y pavorosas hidras. Yo, Celestina, tu más conoscida cliéntula, te conjuro por la virtud y fuerza destas bermejas letras; por la sangre de aquella nocturna ave con que están escriptas; por la gravedad de aquestos nombres y signos que en este papel se contienen; por la áspera ponzoña de las víboras de que este aceite fue hecho, con el cual unto este hilado: vengas sin tardanza a obedescer mi voluntad, y en ello te envuelvas, y con ello estés sin un momento te partir, hasta que Melibea con aparejada oportunidad que haya lo compre; y con ello de tal manera quede enredada que, cuanto más lo mirare, tanto más su corazón se ablande a conceder mi petición, y se le abras y lastimes del crudo y fuerte amor de Calisto, tanto que, despedida toda honestidad, se descubra a mí y me galardone mis pasos y mensaje. Y esto hecho, pide y demanda de mí tu voluntad. Si no lo haces con presto movimiento ternásme por capital enemiga: heriré con luz tus cárceles tristes y escuras; acusaré cruelmente tus continuas mentiras; apremiaré con mis ásperas palabras tu horrible nombre. Y otra y otra vez te conjuro. Así, confiando en mi mucho poder, me parto para allá con mi hilado, donde creo te llevo envuelto."
